Description

An extraordinary travel on the cocoa route in Peru

Doing the cocoa route in Peru remains a remarkable trip full of surprises and meetings with extraordinary people which you will always remember! This trip to Chazuta will be for sure one of your best memories during your stay in the Amazon, not only through its cultural but also through its human richness. Here is the program of your journey:

You will take the road at 8 am to the Colombia bridge where you will take a motor boat to cross the río Mayo.

During the boat trip, you will observe many Amazonian bird species, trees and also medicinal plants. At the confluence with the majestic Huallaga river, you will continue until the picturesque Shapaja village. There you will have a break at La Balsa restaurant before continuing your journey.

Meeting the local population of Chazuta

Next step will be Chazuta village, also called "The land of friendship". During the boat ride, you will discover the difficult passes of Huallaga river, as for example el Estero, Chumía and Vaquero. You will rest a little to observe how the local population fishes there. You will also be able to fish with a hook if the river conditions and the season permit it (generally from June to October).

You will then visit the museum of funerary urns from the Chachapoyas civilization.

Mishky Cacao, the most delicious handmade chocolate of Peruvian Amazon

After the museum visit, you will go to Mishky Cacao, a women association who produce one of the best chocolates in the region. Take your time to taste their delicious specialties, such as their chocolate marmalade or chocolate candies and share magic moments with them. This incredible women's team will teach you about the manufacturing secrets of their so famous majambo* paste (*variety of tropical nut). This chocolate has won the best handmade chocolate reward on the Salon du Chocolat in Paris!

A warm and friendly meeting with extraordinary women, full of humility.

You will return to Shapaja village to have lunch and will be able to swim in the river if the flow permits it (the appropriate season to swim in the river being between June and November).

In the late afternoon, you will go back to Tarapoto.
